Within how many days must I report changes in my personal information (passport, marital status, address)?
General information, not legal advice. For high-stakes decisions, confirm with the official institution in the next-step below, or consult a qualified Turkish lawyer.
Pending expert review. This fact is sourced but has not yet been reviewed by an independent legal expert. Treat as a starting point.
Within 20 working days (yirmi iş günü) of the change, you must notify BOTH:
- Your university's designated office, AND
- Your local İl Göç İdaresi directorate (Müdürlüğü).
Reportable changes include: passport renewal/change, marital status changes, address changes, and similar.
Watch-outs
- Two separate notifications, not one — both the university AND the directorate (Müdürlük) must be told. Notifying only one is non-compliance.
- Address changes are especially critical — the ikamet system uses your registered address for all correspondence (including the new ikamet card delivery).
- "Working days" means business days — weekends don't count toward the 20-day window.
- This is separate from the 20-working-day address registration after permit issue (fact
permits-09).
Next step
Keep a small document folder with your passport copy, current ikamet card, and registered address details. Update both your university office and your İl Göç İdaresi Müdürlüğü the same week any of these change.
