• Start apostille on home-country documents

  High stakes4 December 2026 · Reminders: 14d, 7d, 1d, day of

  Apostille (or consular legalization for non-Hague countries) is the slowest link in the chain. Most home-country ministries take 2-6 weeks, and they don't accelerate for foreign deadlines. Begin this 11 weeks before the YTB deadline at the latest.

• Send documents to sworn (yeminli) translator

  High stakes22 December 2026 · Reminders: 7d, 3d, 1d, day of

  Sworn translation in Türkiye costs roughly 250-400 TL per page and takes 3-7 days. If you're using a home-country translator, expect 2-3 weeks plus shipping. Start the moment your apostilled originals are ready.

• Request recommendation letters from referees

  Medium15 January 2027 · Reminders: 14d, 7d, 1d, day of

  YTB requires 1-2 reference letters depending on your study level. Give your referees at least 4 weeks notice — busy academics rarely respond faster, and a chased referee writes a worse letter.

• Assemble all documents as portal-ready PDFs

  Each document must be under 2 MB and in PDF format. Run originals through a compressor (ilovepdf or smallpdf) and rename so the file name matches what the portal asks for. This is the kind of detail that loses applications at the upload step.

  Last chance to spot a wrong-date transcript or a missing apostille stamp before submission. Lay every file out, tick against the official checklist, and have a second person eyeball each PDF.
